Angelina Jolie and his father Jon Voight has reconciled again
Angelina Jolie's sour relationship with her father, actor Jon Voight, is going sweet again.
"Jon and I've gotten to know each other -- through grandchildren today -- [and] we are finding a new connection," the 42-year-old actress, who is promoting her fourth directorial effort, First They Killed My Father, informs Scott Feinberg on THR's Awards Chatter podcast (that can be downloaded through THR.com/TheRace). "We have had some difficulties, [however] through artwork we have been able to talk. It's the frequent language."
Their issues reached a nadir in 2002, soon after Voight and Jolie starred together as father and daughter at Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, when Voight gave an interview to Access Hollywood and claimed that Jolie had "serious mental problems." Jolie reacted by legitimately dropping "Voight" out of her name, though she hadn't ever used it professionally ("I wished to have my own identity -- I did not wish to walk into space as 'Jon's daughter,'" she explains).
For now, though, her beautifully conservative dad and Jolie seem to have figured out that the secret of maintaining peace. "We do not talk politics" she says. "We discuss artwork very well."
